The KENNAMETAL 1160249 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG333 geometry, manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards as part of the KENLOC series. It features a multilayer CVD coating — TiC, TiCN, and TiN — designed to deliver moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert carries an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches, a corner radius of 0.0469 inches, and a 90-degree square shape with a negative rake and neutral hand. With 8 cutting edges and compatibility with both clamp and pin holding methods, it is suited for general turning, facing, and boring operations in production environments.
This insert is primarily intended for machining steel and stainless steel, with the KC850 grade also rated for cast iron and special or super alloys. It is a medium-machining chip breaker design, making it well-suited for moderate depth-of-cut passes in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. Licensed machinists, tooling specialists, and CNC programmers working in job shops or production facilities will recognize this as a general-purpose workhorse insert for interrupted and continuous cuts where balanced toughness and wear resistance are required.
Designed for use in KENLOC-compatible toolholders that accept SNMG-style inserts with clamp or pin retention. Rated for primary workpiece materials steel (P) and stainless steel (M), with secondary ratings for cast iron (K) and special or super alloys (S). Material grades C5 and C6 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before clamping to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure.
