The KENNAMETAL 1160222 is a DNMG432P grade KC850 solid carbide turning insert designed for high-demand metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, delivering a balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness suited to interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert measures 15.5 mm (0.621 inches) in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0313-inch corner radius. The P chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining operations. With four usable cutting edges and a negative rake angle, it delivers extended tool life per insert. Licensed HVAC and machining professionals specify this insert for steel and stainless steel applications requiring consistent edge integrity under load.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. Primary workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and special or super alloys (S). The KENLOC series uses clamp and pin holding methods, making it compatible with standard DNMG-style toolholders operating at negative rake. It is well-matched for production environments where roughing passes and medium machining cycles run on steel and stainless steel components.
Designed for use in DNMG-style negative-rake toolholders compatible with the KENLOC series. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and select super alloys. Meets ANSI and ISO insert standards (ANSI: DNMG432, ISO: DNMG150408).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Secure with the appropriate clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer specifications, and verify the insert is fully seated before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm to avoid premature edge failure or insert fracture.
