The KENNAMETAL 1160215 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG432 geometry, grade KC850, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, providing a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited for moderate to demanding cutting conditions. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, negative rake angle, and neutral hand orientation make it a versatile choice for facing, boring, back turning, and back boring in addition to straight turning. It belongs to the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series and is sized to ANSI code DNMG432 and ISO code DNMG150408. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.
This insert is engineered for medium machining applications on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, with secondary suitability for special and super alloys. The KC850 grade delivers moderate wear resistance combined with high toughness, making it effective across a range of cutting speeds and feed rates where both edge integrity and surface finish matter. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style helps reduce chipping at entry and exit. With 4 usable cutting edges per insert, it offers extended tool life per unit. The insert is held using clamp or pin-type toolholders compatible with DNMG-style pockets in the KENLOC series.
Designed as an OEM-grade replacement or direct-use insert for KENLOC-series toolholders accepting DNMG432 (ISO DNMG150408) insert pockets with clamp or pin holding. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and clearance angle requirements before installation.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination can cause incorrect seating and premature edge failure. Torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manuals for tool change protocols.
