Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1160180 is a CNMG433 geometry turning insert in grade KC850, designed for use in CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a solid carbide substrate with a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, delivering a balance of wear resistance and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The insert has an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 3/64 inches (0.0469 inches). Neutral hand orientation and a negative rake geometry make it suitable for medium machining operations including turning, facing, and boring. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in KENLOC-compatible toolholders.

This insert is rated for primary use on steel (P) and stainless steel (M), with additional capability on cast iron (K) and special and super alloys (S) at moderate wear-resistance and toughness levels. The chip breaker geometry is classified for medium machining applications, making it appropriate for general-purpose material removal in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. It is sold individually and ordered in multiples of five, making it practical for production environments where consistent insert replenishment is required.

Key Features

  • KC850 grade with multilayer CVD coating: TiC, TiCN, and TiN for extended tool life on steel and stainless steel
  • 80-degree diamond (CNMG) insert shape with negative rake and negative side clearance for stable cutting forces
  • Four usable cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per edge
  • Medium machining chip breaker geometry suited for turning, facing, and boring operations
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style for edge strength and reduced chipping risk
  • Compatible with both clamp and pin insert-holding methods

Compatibility

Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG433 (ISO: CNMG120412) geometry inserts with clamp or pin holding methods. Verified compatible workpiece material codes: P, M, K, and S. Multi-use application across turning, facing, and boring operations.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before installing the insert. Verify torque on clamping screws per the toolholder manufacturer specifications, not insert specifications alone.
