Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1160161 is a round (RNMG) solid carbide turning insert in the KENLOC series, grade KC850. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, which delivers a balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert has a 0.75-inch inscribed circle, a 0.25-inch thickness, and a 0.375-inch full corner radius. With 8 available cutting edges, negative rake, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, it is suited for medium machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in KENLOC-style toolholders for production and job-shop turning environments.

This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloys (ISO material groups P, M, K, and S). Its round shape and full radius geometry make it well suited for profiling passes and contour turning where a continuous cutting edge is required. The KC850 grade and CVD multilayer coating support stable performance at moderate cutting parameters where both wear resistance and edge toughness are priorities. It is appropriate for both light-production and general-purpose CNC lathe work.

Key Features

  • Round insert shape (RNMG) with full corner radius of 0.375 inches and 8 usable cutting edges
  • KC850 grade with multilayer CVD TiC/TiCN/TiN coating for wear resistance and toughness
  • Neutral hand orientation compatible with standard KENLOC round-insert toolholders
  • Negative rake and 0-degree relief angle with chamfered and honed cutting edge preparation
  • Multi-use geometry supports turning, facing, and boring in a single insert style
  • Meets ANSI (RNMG64) and ISO (RNMG190600) insert standards for broad toolholder compatibility

Compatibility

Designed for use in KENLOC-series round-insert toolholders that accept RNMG64 (ANSI) or RNMG190600 (ISO) inserts with clamp or pin insert-holding methods. Compatible with workpiece materials in ISO categories P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and S (special and super alloys).

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure; use the specified clamp or pin hardware for KENLOC-style seats and do not substitute mismatched retention hardware.
