The KENNAMETAL 1160018 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG431 geometry, carrying the K68 uncoated (bright) grade. Sized with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius, it features an 80-degree diamond shape and a negative rake, negative side clearance configuration. Four usable cutting edges maximize tool life per insert. The K68 grade is an uncoated carbide formulated for high wear resistance across stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous and superalloy materials. Chip breaker geometry is rated for medium machining operations. This insert is part of the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series and conforms to ANSI and ISO standards.
Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations in both production and job-shop environments. The CNMG431 geometry is a common choice for machining non-ferrous metals, cast iron, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium where a sharp, wear-resistant uncoated edge is preferred over coated alternatives. The insert seats via clamp and pin holding methods, making it compatible with standard KENLOC-style toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is 0.049 inches (1.25 mm), placing this insert in light-to-medium finishing and semi-finishing applications.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG431 (ISO CNMG120404) inserts with clamp and pin clamping. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Disconnect and lock out all machine power before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Use the appropriate torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid insert fracture or improper seating — do not over-torque.
