The KENNAMETAL 1159659 is a VNMG331UF turning insert in the KC730 grade, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiN coating applied over a solid carbide substrate. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches, insert length is 0.6539 inches (16.61 mm), and the corner radius is 1/64 inch. The UF chip breaker geometry targets fine finishing cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in KENLOC-style toolholders for high-precision turning of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces.
The 1159659 is suited for finishing passes in light to moderate material removal applications. The KC730 grade delivers high wear resistance with adequate toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece material groups, with secondary suitability for superalloys (S). The ANSI insert code is VNMG331 and the ISO equivalent is VNMG160404. The negative side clearance geometry and M-tolerance classification are standard for this insert style. This insert is appropriate for both production and job-shop turning environments where consistent surface finish and tight tolerances are required.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting VNMG-style inserts with clamp and pin holding. Compatible workpiece material groups include P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and S (superalloys) per the KC730 grade specification. Material grades C2, C3, and C4 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before changing inserts, isolate the machine from its power source and ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out per shop safety and OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and verify clamp and pin engagement before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for this geometry.
