The KENNAMETAL 1157964 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drilling systems. It carries the KC720 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiN coating, delivering wear resistance and edge integrity in demanding drilling applications. The insert features an 84-degree trigon shape with an 8 mm (0.315 inches) inscribed circle, a corner radius of 0.80 mm (0.031 inches), and a thickness of 0.1476 inches. The LD chipbreaker geometry supports efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. This insert is installed by machinists and tooling professionals working with indexable drill bodies in metalworking environments.
This insert is suited for metalcutting operations requiring a replaceable, indexable carbide cutting edge. The DFT insert style and LD chipbreaker make it appropriate for general-purpose drilling in materials covered by material grades C1 through C5, which include cast iron, carbon steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous materials. It fits indexable drill bodies that accept the 05T308 insert size with an 8-degree relief angle. Insert replacement should be performed with the drill body fully removed from the machine spindle and all power isolated. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer when tightening the retention screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket for damage, chips, or debris before seating the new insert. This work is typically performed by a machinist or toolroom technician familiar with indexable tooling systems.
