The KENNAMETAL 1157962 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for precision drilling applications in metal cutting operations. Manufactured to the DFTLD insert style with a KC720 grade designation, this insert features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiN coating that improves wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The 84-degree trigon shape with an 8-degree relief angle supports accurate hole entry and clean chip formation. With an inscribed circle of 6.00 mm (0.2362 inches) and a thickness of 0.0965 inches, it is suited for indexable drill toolholders requiring a tight-tolerance insert fit. Machining professionals and tooling specialists install this insert as part of modular drilling assemblies on CNC lathes and machining centers.
This insert is intended for use in indexable drill bodies that accept the DFTLD insert style and KC720-grade carbide geometry. It is applicable in C1 through C5 material grades, covering a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in general manufacturing, aerospace component production, and high-volume machining environments where insert indexability reduces downtime. The LD chipbreaker geometry assists in chip control during interrupted or continuous cuts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for indexable drill toolholders that accept the DFTLD insert style in KC720 carbide grade.
Installation of indexable drill inserts should be performed by qualified machining or tooling professionals with all machine power locked out and spindle fully stopped before service. Use the appropriate torx or insert clamping screw and driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to avoid over-torquing the insert seat. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or damage before seating the new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for proper clamping torque and indexing procedure.
