The KENNAMETAL 1152771 is a solid carbide indexable boring bar in the E-STLP toolholder style, designed for precision internal turning operations on CNC lathes and boring mills. It accepts TP-series inserts secured by a screw-clamp holding method, providing repeatable edge location and rigid insert retention. The bar features a right-hand cut orientation and a neutral rake angle of 0 degrees, making it well-suited for stable, consistent material removal in tight-tolerance bore finishing and semi-finishing applications. The solid carbide shank delivers superior vibration damping compared to steel, which is critical when boring at depth-to-diameter ratios where chatter is a concern.
This boring bar is used in precision machining environments including aerospace, automotive, die and mold, and general metalworking shops. It is sized for applications requiring a minimum bore diameter of 0.77 inches (19.56 mm) with a 5/8-inch shank diameter and a 10-inch overall length. The coolant-through design, with a coolant hole diameter of 0.218 inches, allows direct coolant delivery to the cutting zone, which is particularly valuable in deep bore applications where chip evacuation and heat management are priorities. A licensed machinist or CNC programmer typically specifies and installs this toolholder.
Designed to accept TP-series (TP..) indexable inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and 3/32-inch thickness. Insert selection should be confirmed against the KENNAMETAL TP insert product line for grade and geometry compatibility with the workpiece material.
This toolholder is installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the shank in a properly sized boring bar holder or turret block, ensuring the shank is fully engaged to the recommended minimum clamping depth before cutting. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts or adjusting the toolholder. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's specifications for turret torque and overhang limits to avoid deflection or chatter.
