The KENNAMETAL 1152044 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KC730 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiN coating, which improves wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting applications. The insert features a right-hand orientation, a 1.00 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 1.91 mm. A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a K-style chip breaker promote efficient chip evacuation during grooving. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting operations on materials corresponding to C2, C3, and C4 material grades, which generally cover a range of cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and non-metallic materials. The Top Notch series is a well-established indexable insert platform commonly found in production turning shops handling small-diameter grooving work. The 3M100 insert size and NG style make it appropriate for light to medium grooving passes where tight width tolerances and controlled chip flow are required. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NG insert style in 3M100 size. Consult KENNAMETAL toolholder compatibility charts to confirm proper seating and clamping for your specific holder.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with indexable insert tooling. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before installation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excess clamping load.
