The KENNAMETAL 1120174 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DPGT21.51LF geometry with KC730 grade and a PVD-applied TiN coating. It is designed for finishing and light machining operations on a CNC lathe or turning center. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and a positive side clearance. With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, it delivers tight tolerances on contoured and profiled turned components. It is held in place via a screw-on clamping method and is rated for two cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. The KC730 grade provides high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across these material categories. It is an appropriate choice for production turning environments where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing cuts and light stock removal passes. Both ANSI (DPGT2151) and ISO (DPGT070204) standard codes apply to this insert.
Designed for use in screw-on style DPGT toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for DPGT2151 inserts. Compatible with toolholder systems accepting a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, 55-degree diamond insert with a 3/32-inch insert thickness and a 0.1102-inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed away from the work zone before changing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified screw torque procedure for the toolholder series to avoid insert movement or seat damage. Inspect the insert pocket and seat for chips or debris before seating the replacement insert.
