The KENNAMETAL 1114967 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the NGD4250K insert style with a KC850 manufacturer grade and a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and extended tool life. The cutting width is 6.35 mm (0.250 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 12.70 mm (0.500 inches). The insert features a positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a K-style chip breaker, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing cuts in steel and cast iron. This is a left-hand configuration insert sold individually.
This insert is intended for use in professional machining environments, including production shops, job shops, and maintenance facilities running CNC or manual turning equipment. It is appropriate for grooving, profiling, and parting operations on ferrous materials including steels and cast irons within the C5 and C6 material grades. The Top Notch series tooling system provides secure seating and repeatable indexing, making it a common choice for high-volume turning applications where insert changeover speed matters. Machinists and tooling specialists performing grooving operations in tight tolerance work will find the corner radius of 0.57 mm (0.0225 inches) and the 55-degree included angle useful for controlled entry cuts.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept insert seat size 4 and the NGD insert style. No additional specific compatible model numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret or toolpost is locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified for the Top Notch toolholder to seat the insert correctly - do not overtighten by hand estimation. Verify insert orientation and seating before resuming cutting operations.
