The KENNAMETAL 1114966 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the NGD4125K designation within the Top Notch series, this left-hand insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for enhanced wear resistance and extended tool life in steel and cast iron applications. The KC850 grade is engineered for general-purpose turning with a positive 10-degree rake angle and a K-style chip breaker that promotes efficient chip evacuation. The cutting width is 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches), with a maximum depth of cut of 6.35 mm (0.2500 inches). Machining professionals and tooling specialists install this insert as a direct component of the Top Notch tooling system.
This insert is suited for grooving operations in medium to continuous cutting conditions where controlled chip flow and surface finish consistency are priorities. The K chip breaker geometry and positive rake make it appropriate for finish and semi-finish grooving in materials corresponding to C5 and C6 material grades. It is a left-hand insert, meaning it is designed for right-to-left feed direction applications. The included angle of 55 degrees and a 0.19 mm (0.0075 inch) corner radius make it applicable in close-tolerance groove profiles requiring a near-sharp entry. This insert is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of 5.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept Insert Seat Size 4 and NGD-style inserts. Compatible with Insert Size 4125 tooling within the Top Notch system.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the appropriate Top Notch insert clamp and seating hardware specified for Insert Seat Size 4 to ensure proper clamping force and insert registration. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the selected toolholder and insert combination.
