The KENNAMETAL 1114965 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KC850 grade with a CVD-applied TiC, TiCN, and TiN multilayer coating, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert has a left-hand orientation, a 3.18 mm (0.1252 inch) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 6.35 mm (0.2500 inch). The full-radius geometry with a 1.59 mm (0.0626 inch) corner radius suits grooving and profiling where a controlled radius at the groove base is required. Installed by machinists and CNC turning technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for external and internal grooving applications on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where the KC850 carbide grade is recommended. The neutral rake geometry and CVD multilayer coating make it appropriate for steel and cast iron turning operations requiring consistent tool life. The Top Notch series tooling system is a common platform in production turning applications. The insert size designation is 3062, and the material grade range covers C5 and C6, making it applicable across a range of steel and finishing-to-semi-finishing operations. It is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of five.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL Top Notch series toolholders that accept NRD-style inserts in the 3062 size. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation. No additional specific compatible model numbers were provided in the product data.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and in a safe, locked-out state. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified for the Top Notch toolholder; do not over-tighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Dispose of worn carbide inserts in accordance with local regulations for carbide tooling waste.
