The KENNAMETAL 1114931 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to grade KC850 with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert carries an NGP style designation, a left-hand cutting orientation, and a 3.18 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm. It is intended for installation by machinists and tool-room technicians working on production turning applications.
This insert is suited for external grooving, face grooving, and light parting operations on steel and cast iron workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The KC850 grade with CVD multilayer coating is optimized for continuous and light interrupted cuts at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. Insert size 2125 fits Top Notch series toolholders designed for that insert geometry. The positive rake angle of 5 degrees reduces cutting forces, making it appropriate for medium-duty turning setups where surface finish and dimensional consistency are priorities.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NGP 2125 insert size. The MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number for this insert is NGP2125L.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the machine tool builder and toolholder manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before removing or seating the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified for the Top Notch toolholder clamp to secure the insert without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and accurate tool offset.
