The KENNAMETAL 1114930 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KC850 grade designation with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features a 1.58 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm, and a 0.19 mm corner radius. It is configured for right-hand cutting with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a lead angle of 3 degrees. Machinists and tool setters working with steel and cast iron applications will find this insert suited for medium to finishing cuts in its depth range.
This insert is sized at NGP 2062 and fits Top Notch compatible toolholders designed for that insert size. It is rated for material grades C5 and C6, making it appropriate for machining steels and cast irons at moderate to higher cutting speeds. Typical applications include external grooving, undercut profiling, and shallow parting on production turning equipment. The CVD coating process improves crater wear resistance, which extends tool life in continuous and light interrupted cuts. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders that accept NGP 2062 insert size. The MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number for this insert is NGP2062R/L.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Follow your facility's lockout/tagout procedures prior to any tooling change on CNC equipment.
