The KENNAMETAL 1114919 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove turning and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NG3189K form factor in the Top Notch series, it features a KC850 grade substrate with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert is configured for left-hand cutting with a 4.80 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm. A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a K-style chip breaker promote controlled chip evacuation in steel and cast iron applications. Machinists and CNC programmers working in production turning will find this insert suited to finishing and light roughing passes.
This insert is used in external grooving, face grooving, and profiling operations on lathes equipped with Top Notch-style toolholders. The KC850 grade with CVD TiC, TiCN, and TiN coating targets steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpiece materials classified under material grades C5 and C6. It is suited for medium to high cutting speeds in both dry and wet cutting environments. The left-hand orientation positions the insert for specific tool approach directions, so confirm toolholder hand before ordering. This insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept NG-style inserts at insert size 3189. Verify toolholder hand orientation matches the left-hand configuration of this insert before installation.
This insert is seated and clamped by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for debris or wear before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut range for the workpiece material and cutting conditions.
