The KENNAMETAL 1114901 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KC850 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and extended tool life. The insert delivers a 1.98 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm. A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a K-style chip breaker promote efficient chip evacuation in a variety of workpiece materials. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working with carbide toolholders in the Top Notch series.
The 1114901 is suited for grooving applications in medium to finish turning operations where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical. The right-hand orientation and insert size designation of 3078 make it compatible with Top Notch series toolholders configured for that profile. A 55-degree included angle and a 0.19 mm corner radius support controlled material removal in tight groove geometries. Material grades C5 and C6 indicate suitability for machining steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials at moderate to higher cutting speeds. It is sold in multiples of 5 units per order with 1 insert per package.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting the NG3078 insert profile. The MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number for this insert is NG3078R/LK. No additional compatible model numbers were provided in the product data.
Grooving insert installation should be performed by qualified machinists following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy is locked out before seating or replacing inserts. Verify insert orientation matches the toolholder pocket designation before securing the clamping screw. Inspect the pocket for debris or damage that could affect seating and cutting accuracy.
