The KENNAMETAL 1114861 is a carbide threading insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precise thread-cutting operations on both internal and external workpieces. Manufactured to an NTK insert style with a KC850 grade substrate, it features a CVD-applied TiC/TiCN/TiN multilayer coating that delivers wear resistance and edge stability across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The insert covers external pitch ranges from 0.60 to 2.50 mm (10 to 44 TPI) and internal pitch ranges from 1.00 to 2.50 mm (9 to 24 TPI). It is a left-hand, partial profile 60-degree insert, making it the correct choice for left-hand thread forms. Machinists and CNC programmers specify this insert for production threading on lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for production and job-shop environments where consistent thread quality is required across moderate to high-volume runs. The partial profile 60-degree geometry accommodates multiple thread pitches without requiring a dedicated insert per pitch, reducing tooling inventory. Typical applications include threading operations on steel, stainless, and cast materials where a C5 or C6 carbide material grade is appropriate. The Top Notch series toolholder system accepts this insert size 3 geometry, and the left-hand designation must be matched to a compatible left-hand Top Notch holder.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept a size 3, NTK-style, left-hand threading insert. Confirm holder hand orientation and insert seat geometry before installation.
Threading inserts are installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct Top Notch clamping screw and torque it with the manufacturer-specified wrench to achieve proper insert seating — do not overtighten by hand or with non-standard tools. Verify insert hand orientation and pitch range against the programmed thread cycle before running the first part.
