The KENNAMETAL 1114662 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precise external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NGP2062 style in Kennametal's Top Notch series, this uncoated insert carries the K68 grade designation and a C3 material grade rating, making it well suited for machining cast iron, nonferrous materials, and abrasive workpieces where a hard, wear-resistant substrate is required. The insert delivers a cutting width of 1.58 mm (0.0622 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm (0.1098 inches), with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees that promotes free cutting action and reduces cutting forces during grooving passes.
This insert is intended for right-hand tooling setups in production turning environments, including both light manufacturing and high-volume machining cells. It fits Top Notch series grooving toolholders and blade-style holders compatible with the NGP2062 insert size. Machinists working in job shops or production facilities that machine cast iron components, aluminum alloys, brass, or other nonferrous materials will find the uncoated K68 carbide substrate an appropriate choice where coatings may not adhere well or where sharp edge retention on softer abrasive materials is the priority. The 0.19 mm (0.0075 inch) corner radius keeps edge definition tight for narrow groove profiles.
Designed for use with Kennametal Top Notch series grooving toolholders and blade holders accepting the NGP2062 insert size. Verify holder compatibility with the NGP insert style and 2062 size designation before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper support and accurate positioning.
