The KENNAMETAL 1114487 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the NGD insert style and manufactured in grade K313, this uncoated bright-finish insert delivers consistent performance in demanding cutting applications. The left-hand orientation and positive rake angle of 10 degrees promote clean chip flow and reduce cutting forces during the grooving pass. A corner radius of 0.19 mm and a cutting width of 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches) make it well suited for controlled, repeatable groove profiles. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments will recognize this insert as part of the established Top Notch series.
This insert is intended for use in Top Notch series grooving toolholders and blade systems. It is suited for grooving operations where maximum depth of cut ranges from 5.00 mm to 10.00 mm (roughly 0.200 to 0.300 inches), with a nominal maximum depth of 6.35 mm (0.250 inches). The 55-degree included angle and K chip breaker geometry are optimized for metric-dimensioned applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials classified in the C3 and C4 material grade ranges. No coating is applied, keeping the insert in its bright, as-ground condition for applications where coating is not required or preferred.
Designed for use with Top Notch series grooving toolholders and blade systems that accept NGD-style inserts in the 3125 insert size. Material grades C3 and C4 are supported as noted in the product specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered off and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Top Notch clamping screw and torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for chips or debris before seating the insert. Never overtighten the clamping screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under uneven clamping load.
