The KENNAMETAL 1114484 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NGD insert style and running in the Top Notch series, this uncoated bright-finish insert delivers consistent material removal in demanding machining environments. It carries a manufacturer grade of K313 with a positive rake angle of 10 degrees, a cutting width of 1.58 mm (0.0622 inches), and a maximum depth of cut of 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches). The K chip breaker geometry and 55-degree included angle contribute to predictable chip control. Machinists and CNC operators in production shops install this insert as a direct replacement in compatible Top Notch toolholders.
This insert is suited for grooving, parting, and related turning operations in both light and moderate production settings. The right-hand orientation and positive rake geometry make it appropriate for external grooving on steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous workpieces matching the C3 and C4 material grades. With a maximum depth of cut range of 3.00 mm to 4.00 mm (0.1000 to 0.1500 inches), it fits applications requiring shallow to moderate groove profiles. The uncoated carbide substrate is selected where coating buildup would affect dimensional accuracy or where re-sharpening is a consideration.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL Top Notch series toolholders accepting NGD-style inserts with insert size designation 3062. Confirm toolholder specifications before installation to ensure proper seating and clamping.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing any insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not over-tighten the clamping screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under uneven clamping force. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or wear before seating the new insert.
