The KENNAMETAL 1114389 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the NRD3062K insert style in the Top Notch series, it features a KC730 grade substrate with a PVD-applied TiN coating for wear resistance and extended tool life. The insert delivers a cutting width of 3.18 mm (0.1252 inch) and a maximum depth of cut of 6.35 mm (0.2500 inch). A full-radius corner geometry with a 1.59 mm (0.0626 inch) corner radius and a K chip breaker profile support controlled chip evacuation. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for grooving, plunge cutting, and profiling applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces classified under material grades C2, C3, and C4. The left-hand orientation dictates toolholder selection and cutting direction, making it appropriate for specific setups on gang-tool lathes, turret lathes, and Swiss-style turning machines. The neutral rake geometry and 55-degree included angle support stable cutting forces during grooving cycles. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units per order.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NRD insert style in size 3062. Left-hand orientation must be matched to a compatible left-hand toolholder. Verify toolholder seating and clamp compatibility before installation.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed with the machine fully powered down and in a locked-out, tagged-out condition per shop safety protocols. Use the correct torque wrench and seating tool specified for Top Notch series clamping hardware — do not over-tighten or seat by impact. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or damage before installing a new insert. Confirm left-hand orientation alignment with the toolholder before initiating any cutting cycle.
