The KENNAMETAL 1114338 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the NG3094K geometry in KENNAMETAL grade KC730, a PVD-applied TiN-coated carbide grade suited for C2, C3, and C4 material groups. The insert is left-hand orientation with a 2.39 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm. A positive 10-degree rake angle and K-style chip breaker promote controlled chip evacuation and reduce cutting forces during moderate to high-speed grooving passes. Machining professionals and toolroom technicians select this insert for consistent dimensional performance on turned grooves and undercuts.
This insert fits the KENNAMETAL Top Notch series toolholding system and is intended for use in turning operations targeting steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials within the C2 through C4 material grade range. It is well suited for production turning environments where groove width consistency and surface finish are critical. The included angle of 55 degrees and a corner radius of 0.19 mm make it appropriate for standard groove profiles where a full-radius tip is not required. Typical applications include external groove cutting, thread relief, and snap-ring groove machining on shafts and cylindrical workpieces.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept NG-style inserts in the 3094 insert size. Confirm toolholder hand designation matches the left-hand orientation of this insert before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe indexed position before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the Top Notch toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert seating and clamping before resuming cutting to prevent insert movement under load.
