The KENNAMETAL 1114318 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision turning and grooving operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Designated insert style NG with a KC730 manufacturer grade, it features a PVD-applied TiN coating and a positive rake angle of 10 degrees for reduced cutting forces and improved chip control. The insert delivers a cutting width of 1.83 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm, making it well suited for shallow to medium-depth grooving applications. Right-hand orientation and a K-style chip breaker geometry support consistent chip evacuation during interrupted or continuous cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert as part of routine tooling maintenance.
This insert fits within the Top Notch series tooling system and is intended for grooving and turning applications in materials classified under grades C2, C3, and C4, which typically include cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and non-metallic materials. The 55-degree included angle and 0.19 mm corner radius allow controlled entry into narrow groove profiles. It is used in production and job-shop environments on both horizontal and vertical turning centers where repeatable groove geometry and surface finish are required.
Designed for use with Top Notch series grooving toolholders accepting NG-style inserts, size 3072. Compatible with tooling setups referencing MSC/Manufacturer Number NG3072R/LK.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert-seating tool recommended for the Top Notch toolholder system to avoid insert cracking or improper seating. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for clamping torque to ensure secure retention during cutting.
