The KENNAMETAL 1114309 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Finished with a PVD-applied TiN coating and manufactured to the Top Notch series standard, this insert delivers consistent performance in applications where tight groove width tolerances are required. It carries a 2.25 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm, and a positive 10-degree rake angle. The KC730 grade carbide substrate targets a broad range of workpiece materials spanning material grades C2, C3, and C4. Installation is performed by qualified machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This insert is suited for light to medium-duty grooving on ferrous and non-ferrous materials in both production and job-shop environments. The right-hand orientation positions it for standard lathe configurations where the tool feeds from right to left. The K chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in shallow groove profiles. The 0.19 mm corner radius and 55-degree included angle make it appropriate for detail grooving where edge definition matters. Typical applications include snap-ring grooves, undercuts, and profile turning on small-diameter workpieces.
Designed for use in Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept NG-style inserts with an insert size designation of 3M225. Compatible toolholder selection should be verified against the Top Notch series toolholder catalog using insert style NG and insert size 3M225.
This insert is seated and clamped by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician using the appropriate Top Notch series toolholder and clamping screw. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the control placed in an e-stop or locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for wear or debris before seating the replacement insert.
