The KENNAMETAL 1114308 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KC730 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiN finish, which enhances wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting applications. The insert features a right-hand orientation, a 3.15 mm cutting width (0.124 inch), and a maximum depth of cut of 6.35 mm (0.250 inch). The K chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action, helping control chip flow at the cutting zone. This insert is part of the Kennametal Top Notch series and is intended for installation by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals.
This insert is suited for grooving operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials corresponding to material grades C2, C3, and C4. It is commonly used in production turning environments where consistent groove geometry and repeatable depth control are required. The Top Notch series is a well-established indexable tooling platform used across job shops and production facilities running medium to high-volume turning work. The NP3014K insert size fits compatible Top Notch toolholders designed for that insert pocket configuration.
Designed for use with Kennametal Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NP3014 insert size and pocket configuration. Compatible with material grades C2, C3, and C4 workpiece materials per the insert specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a powered-off and locked-out state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque driver or insert clamp screw tool specified for the Top Notch toolholder to secure the insert without overtightening. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Always verify correct insert orientation and depth stop before resuming cutting operations.
