The KENNAMETAL 1114252 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and cutoff operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KC730 grade designation and features a physical vapor deposition (PVD) titanium nitride (TiN) coating for wear resistance and extended tool life. The insert is left-hand orientation with a 0.25-inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.25 inches (6.35 mm). A positive rake angle of 10 degrees reduces cutting forces, and the K chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation. This insert is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The 1114252 is suited for grooving applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials classified under material grades C2, C3, and C4. Typical use cases include external groove profiling, undercut operations, and light parting on turned components. The insert size designation is 4250 with an insert seat size of 4, fitting standard Top Notch toolholders designed for that seat class. The lead angle of 3 degrees and included angle of 55 degrees make it appropriate for moderate-depth groove profiles within the 0.20-inch to 0.30-inch depth-of-cut range.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders accepting insert seat size 4 and the NG insert style. Compatible with material grades C2, C3, and C4 workpiece materials. Consult KENNAMETAL toolholder documentation to confirm seat and hand orientation match before installation.
Grooving inserts of this type are seated and clamped by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for debris or damage before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for this insert geometry.
