The KENNAMETAL 1114251 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KC730 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiN coating that improves wear resistance and edge life on a range of workpiece materials. The insert has a left-hand orientation, a cutting width of 0.125 inches (3.18 mm), and a maximum depth of cut of 0.150 inches (3.81 mm). The K chip breaker geometry and a positive 10-degree rake angle promote controlled chip evacuation in interrupted and continuous cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in compatible Top Notch toolholders.
This insert is suited for grooving, recessing, and light parting applications in both production and job-shop environments. The NG-style insert profile and size 4125 designation place it in the Top Notch system, which is commonly used on medium-duty turning setups handling steel, cast iron, and nonferrous alloys. Material grades C2, C3, and C4 indicate suitability across a range of ferrous and nonferrous workpiece materials. The left-hand configuration makes it appropriate for specific tooling orientations where chip flow direction matters.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL Top Notch series toolholders accepting size 4 insert seats and NG-style insert geometry. Confirm toolholder seat size and hand orientation before installation.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified for the Top Notch toolholder to secure the insert without over-tightening. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
