The KENNAMETAL 1114220 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This left-hand insert carries a KC730 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiN coating, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The cutting width measures 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches) and the maximum depth of cut is 3.81 mm (0.1500 inches). A full radius geometry with a corner radius of 1.59 mm (0.0626 inches) and a positive 10-degree rake angle help control chip flow and reduce cutting forces on the workpiece.
This insert is suited for grooving applications in metalworking and machining environments where precision groove geometry and reliable tool life are required. The K chip breaker configuration manages chip evacuation effectively during medium to moderate depth passes. It is rated for C2, C3, and C4 material grades, making it appropriate for use on a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The insert style is NR with an insert size designation of 3062, fitting compatible Top Notch toolholders. Installation and changeout are performed by machinists and CNC lathe operators during scheduled tooling maintenance or job changeovers.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept NR-style grooving inserts with a 3062 insert size designation. Confirm toolholder compatibility with KENNAMETAL Top Notch system specifications before installation.
Grooving inserts are seated and secured by licensed machinists or CNC lathe operators. Power down and lock out the machine fully before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench or insert key specified for the Top Notch toolholder clamping mechanism — do not overtighten or use improvised tools. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating the replacement insert.
