The KENNAMETAL 1113912 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a multi-layer CVD coating — TiC, TiCN, and TiN — applied over a KC850 carbide grade substrate rated for ISO material grades C5 and C6. The insert delivers a 3.18 mm (0.1252 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm (0.1500 inch). With a neutral rake geometry and a 0.19 mm corner radius, it is suited for stable, consistent groove profiles in steel and cast iron applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers.
This insert is built to the NF3125 size standard within the Kennametal Top Notch series, a common platform used in dedicated grooving toolholders on production turning machines. It is configured for right-hand operation and carries a 55-degree included angle with a 3-degree lead angle. The Top Notch system is frequently used in high-volume turning cells where fast insert indexing and repeatable seating are required. It is appropriate for both OD grooving and light-duty parting operations where cutting width and depth tolerances are critical.
Designed for use with Kennametal Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept NF3125 style inserts. Refer to Kennametal Top Notch toolholder specifications to confirm pocket compatibility before ordering.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine spindle locked and all power isolated from the machine tool. Use the toolholder manufacturer's recommended torque driver or clamping screw to secure the insert — do not use impact tools on insert clamping hardware. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure full contact and repeatable tool length. Insert handling should be done with care; carbide edges are brittle and will chip if dropped or contacted with hard surfaces.
