The KENNAMETAL 1113908 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KC850 grade designation and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The insert has a left-hand cutting orientation, a 3.18 mm (0.1252 inch) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm (0.1500 inch). It belongs to the Top Notch series, which uses a notch-style seat for positive insert retention. Machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in compatible Top Notch toolholders for grooving steel, cast iron, and similar materials classified under material grades C5 and C6.
This insert is suited for light to medium grooving applications in production turning environments, both job shop and high-volume. The NG4125 insert size fits Insert Seat Size 4 Top Notch holders. The neutral rake geometry combined with the 55-degree included angle and 0.19 mm corner radius make it appropriate for general-purpose grooving where chip control and dimensional accuracy are priorities. It is not configured for full-radius grooving. Typical applications include groove profiling, undercut work, and face grooving on steel and cast iron components in precision machining settings.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting Insert Seat Size 4 and NG-style inserts. Refer to KENNAMETAL Top Notch toolholder selection guides to confirm holder compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and all motion arrested before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the manufacturer-recommended torque wrench for the clamping screw to ensure proper seating in the Top Notch holder without over-torquing. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert, as contamination in the seat can cause deflection and premature edge failure.
