The KENNAMETAL 1113897 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. It carries the KC850 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied multilayer coating sequence of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert features a left-hand cutting orientation, a 4.80 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm. It belongs to KENNAMETAL's Top Notch series, a widely used indexable grooving platform in production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a direct component of the Top Notch toolholder system.
This insert is suited for grooving, parting, and profile turning applications on steel, alloy steel, and similar workpiece materials in the C5 and C6 material grade ranges. The left-hand orientation makes it appropriate for front-to-back or specific spindle-direction grooving setups. It is used in both high-production and job-shop environments where repeatable groove dimensions and surface finish are required. The neutral rake geometry and 55-degree included angle support controlled chip formation in moderate to aggressive cutting conditions.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept the NG3189 insert size. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert size designation before installation.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any insert. Use the appropriate KENNAMETAL Top Notch clamping mechanism and tighten to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and prevent premature insert failure.
