The KENNAMETAL 1113894 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, placing it in the KC850 manufacturer grade — a coating system that provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of steel and cast iron applications. The insert features a 3.96 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm, with a neutral rake geometry and a 0.19 mm corner radius. It is configured for left-hand cutting. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible Top Notch toolholders for precision grooving work.
This insert is suited for grooving operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials in both production and job-shop environments. The KC850 grade targets general-purpose steel and cast iron cutting, where the multilayer CVD coating extends tool life under moderate to high cutting speeds. The NG3156 insert size and Top Notch series designation determine toolholder compatibility. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units, making it appropriate for tool crib stocking and repeat production runs on turning equipment.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting NG3156 style inserts. Material grade rating of C5 and C6 indicates suitability for steel and cast iron turning applications. Verify toolholder hand orientation and insert pocket size before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure full contact and correct cutting geometry.
