The KENNAMETAL 1113835 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and other turning centers. Manufactured to insert size 3031 in the NR style with a left-hand orientation, it features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert carries a KC850 grade designation, rated for material grades C5 and C6, making it well-suited for interrupted cuts and general-purpose turning of steels and cast irons. A full corner radius of 0.79 mm and neutral rake geometry round out the cutting profile. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of routine tool-change maintenance on production turning equipment.
This insert is intended for grooving and profiling operations on metalworking lathes in both production shop and job-shop environments. Its metric-dimensioned profile with a 1.58 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm suits narrow grooving passes and finish turning in tight geometries. The Top Notch series is a standardized insert family for quick indexing. The 55-degree included angle and full radius design allow profiling work where a defined corner form is required. This insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting NR-style size 3031 grooving inserts. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against KENNAMETAL Top Notch system documentation prior to installation.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician using the appropriate Top Notch insert clamp or screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping cutting edges; use insert handling pads or gloves. Verify insert seating and clamp torque according to the toolholder OEM guidelines before resuming cutting operations.
