The KENNAMETAL 1113563 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the K68 manufacturer grade and ships uncoated (bright finish), offering a sharp, true cutting edge suited for non-ferrous metals, cast iron, and abrasive materials in the C3 material grade category. The insert has a cutting width of 1.04 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 1.27 mm, making it well suited for fine, tight-tolerance groove profiles. The neutral rake geometry and right-hand orientation are standard for this insert style. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this tooling component.
This insert fits into Top Notch series grooving toolholders and blade-style holders that accept the NG-style insert seat. It is used in production turning environments where consistent groove width and depth repeatability are critical. Typical applications include O-ring groove cutting, snap-ring grooves, and undercut profiles on shafts and bores in both job-shop and high-volume production settings. The 1.04 mm cutting width and 0.09 mm corner radius allow for precise, narrow groove profiles with minimal material removal per pass.
Designed for use in Top Notch series grooving toolholders and blade holders that accept the NG-style insert seat with an insert size designation of 2041.
Installation and indexing of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop, locked-out, and tagged-out condition per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Top Notch series clamping screw and torx key to seat the insert firmly without over-torquing the clamp. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not attempt to re-sharpen or modify solid carbide inserts in the field.
