The KENNAMETAL 1113528 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This left-hand insert is uncoated (bright finish) and carries the K68 manufacturer grade with a C3 material grade rating, making it well suited for machining cast iron and abrasive non-ferrous materials. The insert features a full radius geometry with a 0.79 mm corner radius and a neutral rake angle. It is installed and replaced by machinists and toolroom technicians as a consumable cutting edge on compatible Top Notch toolholders.
This insert is intended for grooving applications in both production and job-shop environments. The NR insert style with a 1.58 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm fits operations requiring narrow, controlled grooves in external turning configurations. Typical applications include groove-turning on small-to-medium diameter workpieces where consistent width and full-radius profile are required. The metric insert size designation is 2031, and the maximum depth of cut range falls between 2.00 mm and 3.00 mm, accommodating a variety of shallow grooving passes.
Designed for use with Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept the NR2031 insert style. Consult KENNAMETAL toolholder documentation to confirm specific holder compatibility before installation.
Grooving inserts of this type are installed and replaced by machinists following standard turning center lockout and energy-isolation procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before accessing the toolholder pocket. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert properly - do not over-tighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before installing a new insert.
