The KENNAMETAL 1113065 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and cutoff operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KC730 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiN finish, which improves wear resistance and edge retention on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The insert features a right-hand cutting orientation, a 2.39 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm. With a neutral rake geometry and a corner radius of 0.19 mm, it delivers predictable chip control across a range of groove profiles. Machinists and tooling technicians select this insert for precision grooving where dimensional repeatability and insert-to-holder fit are critical.
This insert is suited for use in production turning environments, including light to medium-duty grooving on steel, cast iron, and similar materials rated under material grades C2, C3, and C4. The NG-style insert seats into compatible Top Notch grooving toolholders and is appropriate for both manual and CNC-controlled lathes. It is commonly used in job shop and production settings where consistent groove width and clean side-wall finish are required. The 55-degree included angle and 3-degree lead angle support controlled entry into the workpiece without deflection on moderate-depth passes.
Designed for use in Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept NG3094-style inserts. The MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number for this insert is NG3094R/L.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the toolholder secured in the turret. Use the appropriate Top Notch clamping hardware specified for the NG insert style to ensure proper seating and clamping force. Inspect the pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque guidance for the clamp screw to avoid insert fracture or improper seating.
