The KENNAMETAL 1112990 is a NAS-style carbide threading insert designed for cutting Stub Acme threads at 16 threads per inch (TPI). Part of the Top Notch series, this insert features a Titanium Nitride (TiN) finish applied via a PVD coating process, which improves surface hardness and tool life on demanding threading operations. It carries a manufacturer grade of KC730 and meets material grade classifications C2, C3, and C4. The insert is right-hand cut and supports both internal and external thread forms. With an included angle of 29 degrees and a corner radius of 0.0240 inches, it is built for precision Stub Acme thread profiles in production and job-shop environments. Machinists and CNC operators working on lathe threading applications are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for threading operations on lathes and turning centers where Stub Acme thread forms are required. The Stub Acme standard is commonly encountered in power transmission components, lead screws, and linear motion assemblies. The NAS insert style fits Top Notch compatible toolholders. Its right-hand geometry makes it appropriate for conventional right-hand threading passes on both internal bores and external diameters. The KC730 carbide grade with TiN coating performs well across a range of workpiece materials classified under C2 through C4, including cast irons and non-hardened steels typically found in industrial machining work.
Designed for use with Top Notch series threading toolholders that accept NAS insert style, size 3 inserts. Compatible with right-hand internal and external Stub Acme threading applications on standard CNC and manual lathes.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the lathe or turning center is powered off and the spindle is fully stopped before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly and evenly in the Top Notch toolholder pocket and secure with the appropriate clamping mechanism before taking any threading passes. Do not exceed the recommended depth-of-cut or feed rate for the KC730 grade as specified in the current Kennametal machining data.
