The KENNAMETAL 1112913 is a carbide threading insert in the NT2LK geometry, designed for both internal and external thread turning operations. Manufactured to a KC730 grade with a PVD-applied Titanium Nitride (TiN) finish, this insert delivers consistent performance on a range of workpiece materials classified under C2, C3, and C4 material grades. The partial profile 60-degree thread form accommodates a broad pitch range, covering 0.70 to 3.00 mm (8 to 36 TPI) for external threading and 1.25 to 3.50 mm (7 to 20 TPI) for internal threading. It belongs to the Top Notch series and is intended for installation by machinists and tooling technicians on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for threading applications across general metalworking environments, including production shops and job shops running both ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The left-hand designation makes it the correct choice for left-hand thread forms or specific machine orientations that require reverse-direction cutting. The K chipbreaker geometry is engineered to control chip flow during threading passes, which is particularly important during internal threading where chip evacuation space is limited. The Top Notch series toolholding system provides a secure, repeatable seating platform for the insert.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept NT insert style, size 2 inserts. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against KENNAMETAL Top Notch system documentation before installation.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and indexed by qualified machinists using the appropriate Top Notch clamping hardware — always follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and seating procedure for the specific toolholder in use. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing any insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact. Disposing of worn carbide inserts should follow applicable shop and local regulations for carbide tooling waste.
