The KENNAMETAL 1112815 is a carbide threading insert designed for precision thread-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Running the NT3RK insert style in the KC720 grade with a PVD-applied Titanium Nitride (TiN) finish, this insert delivers reliable wear resistance and edge integrity across a range of threading applications. It covers a 60-degree partial profile thread form and accommodates both internal and external threading in a right-hand configuration. The Top Notch series design ensures secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators working with ISO and inch-standard threads will find this insert suited to production and job-shop environments alike.
This insert handles external pitch ranges of 1.25 to 4.00 mm and 6 to 20 TPI, and internal pitch ranges of 2.00 to 5.00 mm and 5 to 12 TPI. It is appropriate for threading operations on steels and harder alloys where material grades C3 and C4 carbide apply. The K-style chipbreaker geometry helps manage chip flow during threading cuts, reducing the risk of chip packing in tight bores or fine-pitch thread forms. Typical applications include production threading on turned components in general metalworking, aerospace, and industrial fabrication environments.
Designed for use in Top Notch series threading toolholders that accept NT3 insert style. Consult the toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm insert seat and clamping compatibility before installation.
Threading inserts should be installed and changed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
