The KENNAMETAL 1097568 is an indexable threading toolholder in the Top Notch series, designed for both internal and external threading and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The right-hand holder features a 1.25 x 1.25 inch square shank and an overall length of 6 inches. It accepts N.4L inserts held in place by a clamp-style insert holding method, providing positive insert location and repeatable cutting geometry. The NE toolholder style and 0.75 inch head length make it well suited for threading passes where clearance and rigidity are both priorities. This toolholder is installed by machinists and CNC setup technicians on production and job-shop turning equipment.
The 1097568 is a multi-use tool rated for both threading and grooving applications, making it a practical single-holder solution across common turning operations. It is appropriate for use on standard OD turning setups as well as ID threading applications where the 1.25 inch shank diameter allows sufficient bore clearance. The maximum depth of cut is 0.294 inches, and the back-of-bar to cutting edge distance measures 1.625 inches. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or flood delivery should be used when cutting conditions require it.
Designed to accept N.4L series Top Notch indexable inserts. Compatible insert holding is via clamp method; verify insert grade and geometry selection against the specific thread form and workpiece material before ordering inserts separately.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the toolholder from the turret. Ensure the turret pocket and shank contact surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the holder. Verify tool offset and cutting edge height to centerline before initiating a threading cycle.
