The KENNAMETAL 1096977 is a CTCPR-style indexable turning toolholder designed for use on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It uses a top-clamp holding method to secure TPXX 322-series indexable inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. The holder features a positive rake geometry with a 3-degree rake angle, which reduces cutting forces and supports cleaner chip formation on a wide range of workpiece materials. The square shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch high with an overall length of 5 inches. It is built from steel for rigidity and resistance to deflection under turning loads. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this holder in production turning applications.
This toolholder is suited for external turning operations in both production and job-shop environments. The right-hand orientation positions the cutting edge for standard left-to-right feed direction on conventional lathe setups. With a head length of 1.5 inches and a back-of-bar to cutting edge measurement of 1.25 inches, it provides consistent tool-nose positioning for predictable surface finish and dimensional accuracy. It is part of the Kennametal Kendex series, which targets general-purpose external turning with interchangeable indexable inserts.
Designed to accept TP.. 322-series indexable inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, as specified by the Kennametal Kendex series toolholder system. No coolant-through capability; external coolant application only.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the toolholder. Seat the insert fully against the pocket walls and apply correct clamping torque per the insert manufacturer's guidelines using calibrated tooling wrenches. Verify tool-nose height alignment to spindle centerline before taking a cut.
