The KENNAMETAL 1096420 is a right-hand A-MCLN indexable boring bar designed for precision internal turning operations on CNC lathes and boring mills. It accepts CN.. style inserts held by a screw and clamp method, providing rigid, repeatable positioning for demanding metal-removal applications. The bar features a 44.45mm (1-3/4 inch) shank diameter, a 355.6mm (14.00 inch) overall length, and a minimum bore diameter of 51.05mm (2.010 inches). A through-coolant channel with a 1/4-18 NPT inlet delivers cutting fluid directly to the insert tip, helping control heat and extend tool life during deep-bore roughing and finishing passes. The steel body and Kenloc series design target shops running high-volume turning operations where insert changes must be fast and consistent.
This boring bar is suited for medium-to-large diameter internal turning on steel, cast iron, and similar materials in production machining environments. The negative rake geometry (-5 degree lead angle, 5 degree rake angle) handles interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials. It is installed by licensed machinists and CNC programmers in job shops, aerospace component manufacturing, and general metalworking facilities where tight bore tolerances are required.
Designed for use with CN.. style indexable inserts with a 1/2 inch inscribed circle and 3/16 inch thickness, as specified by KENNAMETAL for the A-MCLN Kenloc toolholder series.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and all power isolated before mounting or changing inserts. Confirm shank clamping meets machine tool manufacturer torque and contact requirements for a 44.45mm shank. Connect the through-coolant supply to the 1/4-18 NPT inlet and verify flow before cutting. Follow applicable ANSI and shop safety standards for CNC tooling setup and insert handling.
