The KENNAMETAL 1096415 is an indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built on the Kenloc toolholder platform, this steel-bodied bar uses a screw-and-clamp holding method to secure CN-style negative-rake inserts at a -5 degree lead angle. The 1-inch shank diameter and 12-inch overall length provide the rigidity needed for precise, chatter-resistant cuts in demanding production environments. A built-in coolant-through port with a 1/4-18 NPT thread delivers cutting fluid directly to the insert tip, extending tool life and improving chip evacuation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this toolholder in production shops and job shops where consistent bore geometry is critical.
This boring bar is suited for right-hand internal cutting operations requiring a minimum bore diameter of 1.2 inches. The A-MCKN toolholder style and CN insert compatibility make it applicable to a wide range of steel, cast iron, and ductile materials commonly encountered in production turning. With a center-to-cutting-edge distance of 0.64 inches and an inscribed circle of 3/8 inch for the insert seat, the bar is engineered for controlled depths of cut in tight bore conditions. It is a single-use-configuration tool with no multi-use designation.
Accepts CN-style indexable inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 1/8-inch thickness. Compatible with tool turrets and boring bar holders accepting a 1-inch round shank. Insert holding method supports both screw and clamp retention styles within the CN insert family.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or indexing inserts. Verify shank bore and clamp torque against the machine tool manufacturer specifications before running. Confirm coolant line connection at the 1/4-18 NPT port is leak-free before engaging the coolant system under pressure.
