The KENNAMETAL 1096391 is a right-hand A-MTFN indexable boring bar built for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Constructed from steel and engineered within the Kenloc series, this bar accepts TN-style inserts secured by a screw and clamp holding method. With a 2.4-inch minimum bore diameter and a 16-inch overall length, it handles deep-reach boring applications where rigidity and repeatability are critical. Integrated through-coolant capability, fed via a 1/4-18 NPT port, directs fluid to the cutting zone to extend tool life and improve chip evacuation at elevated cutting speeds.
This boring bar is suited for production and job-shop environments working with medium-to-large diameter bores in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 2-inch shank diameter provides the cross-sectional stiffness needed for aggressive depth-of-cut parameters in steel and cast iron. The negative rake geometry, combined with the 5-degree rake angle and a 1/2-inch insert inscribed circle, supports heavy interrupted cuts as well as finishing passes. Machinists and CNC tool-and-die tradespeople will find this bar appropriate for horizontal and vertical turning applications where coolant-through tooling is specified.
Designed to accept TN-style indexable inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch thickness, conforming to the A-MTFN toolholder standard. Part of the Kennametal Kenloc series.
This boring bar should be installed and set up by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician in accordance with machine-tool manufacturer guidelines. Confirm that the spindle and turret are fully de-energized and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before mounting or removing the bar. Verify shank-to-holder bore fit, torque clamping screws to the tool manufacturer specifications provided in the Kenloc documentation, and confirm through-coolant line connections are secure before initiating a test cut. Do not exceed the insert or toolholder manufacturer depth-of-cut and feed-rate parameters for the selected TN insert grade.
