The KENNAMETAL 1096389 is a right-hand A-MTFN indexable boring bar built for precision internal turning operations in metal cutting applications. Constructed from steel, this Kenloc-series bar features a 44.7 mm (1.76 inch) minimum bore diameter and a 38.1 mm (1-1/2 inch) shank diameter, with an overall length of 355.6 mm (14 inches). The tool accepts TN.. insert geometry and uses a screw-and-clamp insert holding method with a negative 5-degree rake angle. Through-coolant capability is supported via a 1/4-18 NPT coolant hole thread, keeping cutting zones clear and extending insert life during deep-bore operations.
This boring bar is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes performing internal diameter machining where consistent bore quality and insert security are required. Its 22.61 mm back-of-bar to cutting edge measurement and 0.89 inch center-to-cutting-edge dimension support accurate tool offset setup. The A-MTFN holder style and 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert compatibility make it a standard fit in shops running medium-to-large diameter boring work on steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling specialists in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with TN.. style inserts at a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch insert thickness, following the A-MTFN toolholder standard for right-hand boring applications.
This boring bar should be installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool turret or holder is de-energized before mounting or removing the bar. Verify shank clamping torque and coolant line connection to the 1/4-18 NPT port before operation. Consult the machine tool manufacturer's guidelines and relevant shop safety procedures when setting tool offsets and confirming minimum bore clearance.
