The KENNAMETAL 1096354 is a neutral-hand MTEN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative rake applications in CNC and manual lathe operations. Built on the Kenloc series platform, it features a clamp-and-screw insert holding method that securely locks TN..43. family inserts under the cutting forces typical of heavy roughing and general turning. The shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall with an overall length of 6 inches, making it compatible with standard square-shank toolpost and turret setups. The toolholder is machined from steel and carries a rake angle of -10 degrees, which is well suited for interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC technicians are the primary installers of this toolholder in production turning environments.
This toolholder fits residential shop, job-shop, and production floor lathes where a 1 inch by 1 inch square shank is required. The neutral hand orientation means the cutting edge is centered, allowing use on either side of the centerline depending on the setup. The back-of-bar to cutting edge distance is 0.5 inches. It accepts TN.. 432 inserts specifically, giving machinists a consistent insert family across multiple holder styles. No coolant-through feature is present, so external coolant supply or flood coolant must be directed at the cutting zone independently.
Designed to accept TN.. 432 series indexable inserts. Catalog reference number MTENNS164 may be used to cross-reference compatible inserts and replacement components within the Kenloc toolholder series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or seating the toolholder in the turret or toolpost. Ensure the shank bore or toolpost pocket is clean and free of chips before inserting the holder to maintain proper centerline height. Follow the lathe manufacturer torque guidelines for clamping bolts and verify insert seating before taking a trial cut.
