The KENNAMETAL 1096299 is a left-hand MVJN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features a negative rake geometry and accepts VN..43. series inserts secured by a clamp and screw holding method. The shank measures 1 inch x 1 inch with an overall length of 5 inches, making it a standard fit for most tool post and turret setups. The Kenloc series design provides rigid insert clamping for stable cuts in steel, cast iron, and similar materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning technicians are the primary installers of this toolholder.
This toolholder is suited for production and job-shop turning environments where left-hand tool orientation is required. The 3-degree lead angle and negative rake configuration support interrupted cuts and heavy-stock removal passes. The back-of-bar to cutting edge dimension is 1.25 inches, and the insert inscribed circle is 0.5 inches, both relevant when setting up tool offsets and planning depth-of-cut. It is a single-application tool with no coolant-through capability, intended for use in dry or externally flooded coolant setups.
Designed to accept VN..43. series indexable inserts with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle. Complete insert compatibility is listed as VN.. 432. Confirm insert grade and geometry selection with the applicable Kennametal catalog for your workpiece material and cutting parameters.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or turning technicians. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before seating or indexing inserts and before mounting the toolholder in the turret or tool post. Ensure the shank bore or tool post pocket is clean and free of chips before clamping to maintain accurate centerline height. Torque insert clamping screws to the toolholder manufacturer specification found in the Kennametal tooling documentation for this series.
